A PIANO ON PLANE?
In August 1971, American Aireline added a 64-key Wurlitzer electronic piano to the coach
lounge aboard one of its Boeing 747 airplane. The occasion was to promote the new
coach lounges on each 747 aircraft and the introduction of the Flagship
Transcontinental Service between LAX and JFK.
On August 26, passengers aboard the late flight from LAX to JFK were treated to a
special performance in the lounge featuring Frank Sinatra Jr. (as seen in this photograph).
Passenger response to piano entertainment was enthusiastic, and the pianos were
soon added to all of America's “747 Luxuary Liners”.
