Avitanallur
The place name (Avita-Nalla-uur) in Malayalam means "That is a good place". This small village had nearly 300 Illams (Brahmin House) in which most of them was attacked and looted during Tippu Sultan's Invasion to Malabar Province.

At the 2001 India census, Avitanallur had a population of 17,007 with 8,406 males and 8,601 females.

The national highway no.66 passes through Koyilandy and the northern stretch connects to Mangalore, Goa and Mumbai. The southern stretch connects to Cochin and Trivandrum. The eastern National Highway No.54 going through Kuttiady connects to Mananthavady, Mysore and Bangalore.
