Bağpınar, Şırnak

Bağpınar (Kurdish: Cînete) is a village in the central district of Şırnak Province in Turkey. The village is populated by Kurds of the Botikan tribe and had a population of 24 in 2021. The hamlet of Çanaklı is attached to Bağpınar.

The village was depopulated in the 1990s during the Kurdish–Turkish conflict.

Current village life

In April 2024, the village festival in honor of St. George, Mor Giwargis, was celebrated for the first time in almost 40 years. Mor Giwargis is the patron saint of the village of Cinet, which is also the name of the village's church, which was destroyed a long time ago. Various videos and articles were made about this pilgrimage festival. The festival in honor of Deruna was also celebrated for the first time in 40 years in October 2024 and documented on many videos. On this special occasion, even the Turkish Vali of Sirnak, i.e. the Deputy Governor of Sirnak, Hasan Hüseyin ALPASLAN, honored the villagers of Cinet with his visit.
