Built by Krauss-Maffei between 1962 and 1965 and originally numbered V200.1, being a more powerful version of the popular V200 class. After computer numbering in Germany some years later, they became class 221. In 1989, 20 were exported to Greece and used mainly on passenger trains on the Athens to Thessaloniki mainline. Renumbered into class A410 they lasted only for a few years in service in Greece. Many were laid up in storage for many years before being sold back to German private operator, Eisenbahn GmbH Prignitzer in 2002. Since then, they have found their way into other private operators hands or withdrawn from service.
Sporting the familiar DB blue and white livery, no. A422 is seen at Larisa on 6 November 1992 on train 603, 20:05 Dikaia to Athīna which it worked from Thessaloniki. Travelling with two other friends, by this point we were 55 minutes late where our planned connection to Volos had left on time some 10 minutes before we arrived.
