File:2011-11-15 Russula Densifolia Gillet 183000.jpg
Image location: Bolinas Ridge, Marin Co., California, USA
These were growing under mixed hardwoods and perhaps a conifer. Caps up to 9.7 cm across and which bruised blackish brown. The context of the cap and stem turned reddish when cut and then eventually gray. The spores were whitish, amyloid, and were ~ 7.0-9.0 X 5.8-7.0 microns, moderately warted and with partial reticulations. No strong odor and a mild taste.
