やきものに関心の高かった12代藩主斉荘が、下屋敷（名古屋市東区）に築かせた登窯である。開窯の時期は、斉荘が名古屋に長期滞在した天保14年（1843）頃と考えられる。赤津の御窯屋の加藤唐三郎が関わったと伝わるが、伝世品はきわめて少なく不明な点も多い。
