Next to the theatre there is the stadium, whose major (length) axis is an extension of the theatre’s axis of symmetry. The stage building of the theatre was also the northern wall of the stadium, making both buildings strongly connected to each other. This specific combination is unique in the antique world. Note that in antique times, the stadium was not visible from within the theatre (as it is now), since the stage building (19 m in height) blocked the view.

Français : Le théâtre mesure environ 100 m de large et peut accueillir 20 000 personnes. Bien que datant de la seconde moitié du IIe siècle après J.-C. (époque romaine), il possède un « auditorium » (section de sièges) de style grec-hellénistique, qui dépasse la forme semi-circulaire qui était la disposition romaine habituelle. La scène du théâtre était richement décorée de marbre. Les vestiges sont toujours en place (et pêle-mêle à cause des nombreux tremblements de terre qui l'ont frappé). A côté du théâtre, il y a le stade, dont le grand axe (longueur) est un prolongement de l'axe de symétrie du théâtre. Le bâtiment de scène du théâtre était également le mur nord du stade, rendant les deux bâtiments fortement connectés l'un à l'autre. Cette combinaison spécifique est unique dans le monde antique. A noter qu'à l'époque antique, le stade n'était pas visible de l'intérieur du théâtre (comme il l'est aujourd'hui), puisque le bâtiment de la scène (19 m de haut) bloquait la vue.
