Dr. Aniru Conteh: "If they contract Lassa fever within the first trimester, usually the fetus dies; they abort, these women abort and then usually, they generally recover after that. However if they come in the late trimester, say about the third trimester or the second trimester, it is generally very difficult for them. We have found that most of them in the late pregnancy do die along with the baby; we usually lose them."
