File:Arne Jacobsen, National Bank, Copenhagen, 1961–1978..jpg
erichsens palais, 1797-1799. architect: c.f.harsdorff, 1735-1799.
as seen from the central square in copenhagen, jacobsen's national bank is just another classicist monument, discussing the orders with 18th century architect harsdorff, a professor at the royal academy like jacobsen and the friend and mentor of c.f.hansen whom we have met previously.
this is a favourite view of mine in copenhagen: continuity in architecture as a choice, the city as an ongoing conversation spanning centuries, jacobsen as a master of contextualism.
