Brigandine Italian, about 1470 Shown opened out to reveal its construction. Its name was derived from the infantry 'brigans' who first wore it. It was formed of tinned iron plates riveted inside a canvas jacket. This example is covered with dark brown or black fustian (soft cotton cloth).Photographed by me (Gaius Cornelius), at the Royal Armoury, Leeds 08-Jun-06.
