LHôtel de Ville dont la flèche élég-ante émerge, triomphalement, envingt endroits, des lointaines perspectives, se détache en puissant reliefde son prestigieux entourage. Les siècles ne nous Tout pas transmisintact et si. dans sa ligne générale, lon voit revivre son aspect dantan,ses détails, ainsi que sa distribution intérieure sont de date relativementrécente. Nous avons dit ce quil eut à souffrir du bombardement de1695. Sans autrement la connaître que par les estampes ou les photogra-phies, on sait que la façade se divise en deux parties inégales : que latour nen occupe pas le centre, et quinégaux, aussi, dans leur dévelop-pement, les deux côtés le sont de même dans leur disjjosition architec-turale et décorative. La partie la plus développée, la partie est, celle qui, de la rue Charles-Buis, se prolonge jusquà la tour, serait, dit-on, la plus ancienne. On en y 22 lîK rxin
