n 77, on the orders of Vespasian, the land register of the territories around Orange (Arausio) were restored. These Roman land registers are the best preserved in the world. Three examples of rural land registers, engraved in marble, were discovered in 1949 in numerous fragments. They had been posted in the city so that individuals could return the public lands that they had appropriated. Parallel lines, separated by 708 meters, intersect to form plots of 50 hectares.
