File:Canada Change 1867-07-01.png
The Dominion of Canada was formed by the United Kingdom from three provinces of British North America:
- The Province of Canada, which was split at the Ottawa River into the provinces of Ontario to the west, and Quebec to the east
- New Brunswick
- Nova Scotia
The capital was established at Ottawa.
Canada inherited territorial disputes with the United States over Machias Seal Island and North Rock, which remain disputed up to the present.
