"Jazz had come to Washington, DC, and cartoonist Clifford Berryman salutes this new musical form. Everyone is shaking to the dynamic sound of jazz as they walk or ride across the Calvert Street bridge - or is it just bad vibrations from the electrified streetcar system on the bridge?" -- NARA General Notes
The Calvert Street bridge was built across the Rock Creek gorge in 1891 by the Rock Creek Railway; it was the first streetcar link from downtown Washington, D.C., out Connecticut Avenue. It was replaced in 1935 by a new Calvert Street Bridge, later renamed the Duke Ellington Bridge.
