De slavernijgeschiedenis heeft tal van religies van Afrikaanse oorsprong doen ontstaan in Brazilië (Candomblé, Santeria) de Verenigde Staten (Santeria, Candomblé) en het Caribisch gebied (Voodoo, Santeria). De Afrikaanse slaven mochten hun eigen spirituele tradities niet uitoefenen omdat die als bedreigend werden ervaren. Door hun oorspronkelijke goden en geestwezens als het ware te vermommen als bijvoorbeeld katholieke heiligen slaagde men erin de eigen rituelen en geloofspraktijken min of meer geaccepteerd te krijgen. Haïti heeft de van oorsprong West-Afrikaanse religie Vodun zich in combinatie met christelijke religies en inheemse religies ontwikkeld tot Voodoo.
Beschrijving
Fles, volledig ingepakt met roodgekleurde textiel. Op het textiel is een stoffen pop bevestigd die zit op een maan. Zowel de pop als het textiel op de fles zijn volledig bedekt met kralen en lovers in diverse kleuren en omwonden met kettingen en touw. De fles staat op een goudkleurig plastiek driepotig voetje.
