The sign attached to the front of oven reads, "Convicts' Bread Oven Mesa County National Historic Site Listed in the National Register of Historic Places in recognition of this property's significant contribution to the heritage of the state of Colorado. Made of adobe type architecture. Was built in 1911 by a road camp of prisoners from Canyon City who built the road through Plateau Canyon. This road served as a link in the Pike's Peak Ocean-to-Ocean Highway." |
