Die Wellenbänder symbolisieren den Marienthaler Bach und den Seelbach, letzterer ist identisch mit dem Namen der Ortsgemeinde.
Durch die Wellenbänder wird das Wappen in drei Abschnitte eingeteilt.
Die Ortsgemeinde Seelbach gehörte zur ehemaligen Grafschaft Sayn - Hachenburg. Im linken Abschnitt des Wappens erscheint daher das Wappentier –goldener leopardierter Löwe – auf rotem Grund.
Im rechten Abschnitt ist auf blauem Untergrund das Bistumswappen des Erzbistums Köln zu sehen und dokumentiert damit die jahrhundertelangen Verbindungen des weit über die Region hinaus bekannten Wallfahrtortes Marienthal mit dem Kölner Erzbistum. Zusätzlich zum Schild findet ein hinter diesem eingestellter Kreuzstab Verwendung.
Das Kreuz schließt somit eine Verwechselung mit dem Wappen des früheren kölnischen Kurstaates aus.
Im oberen Abschnitt sind neben einer Ähre zwei Eichenblätter eingefügt. Die Ähre symbolisiert die Landwirtschaft, die beiden Eichenblätter die Ortsteile Seelbach und Marienthal sowie die in der Gemeinde vorhandenen Waldungen. Komplettiert werden Land- und Forstwirtschaft durch den vorhandenen grünen Untergrund.
