In 1601 by order of King Sigismund III Vasa the diadem was placed on reliquary of St. Sigismund (patron saint of the King) by Stanisław Zemelka. Adorned with a winged dragon with human head, a dragon with a head of a bird or a dog , two birds, a fight between 4 birds and another 2 birds with big beaks. The crown was made by the same artist as the Princely crowns used to create Wawel's Cross of Crowns (A. Bochniak and J. Pagaczewski). According to Percy Ernst Schramm the Wawel crowns were created for Henry VII Hohenstaufen and his wife Margaret of Austria by Cologne goldsmith Dietrich, while according to Lotte Kurras the Wawel crowns and the Płock Diadem were created in Hungary for daughters of King Bela IV.
