After I returned to the parking area for the Adams Falls trail, I noticed that the afternoon clouds were coming in over Grand Lake, and the lake had taken on a deeper hue of blue than I had thus far noticed.
You'll see the lower end of Shadow Mountain on the left as it touched Shadow Mountain Lake out of view. I realized after this third trip to the area, that Shadow Mountain is aptly named. It lies on a compass direction that prevents the sun from lighting its slopes, so that it always looks like a shadow. I am guessing that the Native Americans named it as they had a genius for apt names.
