To help farmers carry their produce from remote rural areas to the nearest trading centers or public markets, USAID supported the improvement of 43.7 km of roads in the district, providing timely and viable access to consumers. The farm-to-market roads will offer all-weather access to an estimated 84,400 people in six sub counties, who are mostly engaged in agriculture, improving their income and livelihoods. The farmers will be able to distribute their products more efficiently and gain increased access to education, health, and commercial services.
The road project supports the Government of Uganda’s goal to transform the three million households in subsistence agriculture to commercialized agriculture.Inauguration of a farm-to-market road in Uganda
