File:Ledbury Railway Station 2025517 0373844d.jpg
View westward, towards Hereford ahead, with branch from Gloucester joining on left; Great Western main line, Worcester - Hereford. The locomotive, a Class 57XX 0-6-0 Pannier Tank, has just run round its train from Gloucester (at the Down platform) and will work it back; the Gloucester service ceased on 13/7/59, with complete closure of the Dymock - Ledbury section, goods trains Gloucester - Dymock lasting until 1964. The station is about a mile from Ledbury town.
The signalman at Ledbury (C.Cooke, 45 years service (1968-2013)) when shown this photograph, stated that the train is almost certainly the afternoon school service from Worcester to Ledbury, because no other regular train service involved the engine uncoupling and running around the coaches as shown before setting off empty to Worcester. In 1958 the service to Gloucester was handled by a Class 14xx engine and one or two auto-coaches.
