In the N. end of theverandah is a chapel with a Buddhaseated on a lotus supported by snake-hooded figures, and on the right of thisis a pictorial litany.^ No. 4 is a muchruined vihara, now measuring 35 ft.by 39 ft. deep. At the inner end isa cross aisle, beyond which a shrine,with a statue of Buddha under theBo-tree, and two cells were excavated;the columns are similar to those inNo. 2. No 5, known as the Maha-wara, and formerly as the Dherwaracave, is again reached by steps. Itis the largest single-storeyed viharacave here, measuring 58^ ft. by 1171 See p. 41. ROUTE 6.
