The "Mickey Mouse Salt Domes" as they were called by Paul Grim of NOAA's EEZ mapping program in 1989. These domes were first surveyed by the NOAA Ship MT. MITCHELL, the largest dome being named Mitchell Dome for the ship. Whiting Dome, named for the NOAA Ship WHITING is the large dome to the NW. These are among the largest salt domes in the Gulf of Mexico.
