October, 2011
Occupy Minneapolis was a series of demonstrations, allied with New York City's Occupy Wall Street, that began on October 7, 2011. The first protest events in Minneapolis were under the name OccupyMN. There were also Occupy groups in St. Paul, Duluth and Rochester.
Protesters created several occupations, the main location being at Hennepin County Government Center plaza which they renamed The People's Plaza. Their protesters called for redress in economic inequality and the end of corporate influence in government.
The occupation was effectively ended the second week of November when the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners created new rules forbidding sleeping in the plaza.
