and the collection of birds is bothrich and attractive. It consists ofmore than thirty-one thousandspecimens, and is probably un-equaled by any collection inEurope. This museum has outgrown thebuilding in which it is placed, andsteps are now being taken to erecta building adequate for its wants.A lot has been secured at Nine-teenth and Race Streets, and on itthe fine building of which we pre-sent a view will be placed as soonas the necessary funds can be ob-tained. The great value of themuseum, and the utter inadequacyof its present quarters either to dis-play or to preserve it, will doubtlessbring the citizens of Philadelphiato its assistance at an early day.Even in the present building, how-ever, visitors to the city should byno means fail to see it. It is opento the public on Tuesday andThursday afternoons, at whichtimes an entrance fee of ten centsis charged. Next door to the Academy ofNatural Sciences stands the LaPierre House, one of the best hotelsin the city. It is six stories
