The 1.2-mile long, 800-foot in elevation trail on Badger Mountain is a new reserve within the city boundary or Growth Management Area for Richland. It was built by Volunteers who broke new trail by hand in October 2005. Community members from Richland and the surrounding area secured protection for this important area above the Tri-Cities. The Friends of Badger Mountain acquired the property, preserving it for the public. The Trust for Public Land, Benton County, the City of Richland and the Friends of Badger Mountain worked together to buy 574 acres to create the Badger Mountain Centennial Preserve, to be maintained in its natural state.
