Katie is transgender, male to female, and completed her transition in November 2022 after living full time in role for 8 years. She is an active member of 3 LGBT support groups. As a young boy, Katie always knew she was different, having no interest in playing out with the other kids in the street. When she was 9 years old and saw a younger female relative in the bath, she knew immediately that her body should have been that shape. She also knew just how much trouble she’d be in if she told anyone, and anyway, there was no way changing her body would ever happen, so she kept quiet. At 13 years old the schoolyard talk of other boys made her realise their crude, disrespectful attitude to girls was so wrong. She saw things from the same perspective as those girls did. Again, she kept quiet, hiding her feelings, burying her emotions. After meeting a wonderful girl at the school dance, falling in love, courting her, getting engaged and finally married, she was determined to forget this strangeness she had. But she couldn’t, and relapsed every few years, before regaining her resolve. After 44 years of marriage, her wife found out and they separated a month later. They still love each other, and Katie is finally happy in her body now it has changed into her true self. She still supports her wife, since that was her vow when they married.
Happily, her wife and family now accept her as the woman she was always meant to be. But it has taken a while.
