IWM caption : "Short Folder seaplane (S.64), serial number 81, being hoisted out from HMS HERMES with wings folded. The HERMES was an obsolete cruiser fitted as a seaplane carrier for the 1913 naval manoeuvres.
This particular aircraft was the first Short Folder to enter naval service. It passed acceptance trials on 17 July 1913 and was placed aboard HMS HERMES for the manoeuvres. The aircraft was damaged on 22 July when a gale blew down its canvas screen hangar. On 4 September 1913 the seaplane crashed into the sea from 1,000ft after its rudder jammed. Following repairs the machine was used at the seaplane base on the Isle of Grain until wrecked in May 1914."
