File:Spring Hall Halifax 026.jpg
Interior of Spring Hall, now known as Spring Hall Mansions, off Huddersfield Road, Halifax, West Yorkshire. Showing hand-made, Arts and Crafts wood or plaster corbel on first-floor ceiling of grand staircase. This bearded man with scrolls could symbolise an attribute such as wisdom, however it is very likely to be also a portrait of the architect himself: (1) he sports a Pre-Raphaelite beard, as did Barber's colleagues in the Artists Rifles in the early 1860s; (2) he carries an armful of scrolls which look just like architects' plans; (3) his profile looks like the well-known portrait of Barber by David Wilkie Wynfield.
