HRH Edward, Prince of Wales in the Soldiers' Memorial Park at Gympie, during his visit on Tuesday 3 August 1920. The Prince's visit was regarded as the official opening of this park which was established almost in the centre of town, as a memorial to the fallen soldiers of Gympie and Widgee districts. The Prince was presented on this occasion with a gold specimen from the No. 3 North Phoenix Mine. (Description supplied with photograph).
Gympie is a city in south-eastern Queensland, situated on the Mary River about 162 kilometres north of Brisbane. Gympie is the centre of an important dairying and agricultural district. In the early days timber was a significant industry.
