Uma das características geomorfológicas da paisagem cársica são as perdas ou sumidouros. Dá-se esta designação quando um curso de água se perde ou some numa galeria subterrânea. A galeria prolonga-se por cerca de 200m ressurgindo mais à frente no canhão da Ribeira dos Amiais.
