From West 40th to West 42d Streets is thedistributing reservoir of the Croton Water-works. On the north-west cor-ner of 42d Street is the Hotel Bristol, and opposite is the Hamilton, Rus-sel Sages house is at No. 506. The most beautiful and important synagogue in the city is the TempleEmanu-el, corner of East 43d Street. It is a large building in the Moorishstyle of architecture. Hotel Sherwood is at 44th Street.
