The cadets' uniforms date this photograph to the 1930s. The scene is the parade ground in front of College Hall (completed 1933). The cadets wear airman-pattern uniforms (wool serge, as distinct from officers' barathea) but with officer-pattern cap badges; the escorting cadet under-officer (with sword) wears a pilot's brevet, and two of the cadets still wear airman-pattern shoulder patches.
