Here in its lower reaches, the Waiwhetū Stream is affected by the rise and fall of the Tides, but thanks to the work of "The Friends Of The Waiwhetū Stream", the waterway is a picture of health and wellness!
Directly across the Stream from here is a small sign announcing that "The Friends" are busy replanting a sizable patch of land with native trees - trees that once grew abundantly in the Hutt Valley before the arrival of European settlers.
The future of this waterway - which was once seen as a "nothing" little backwater creek - is now looking good... thanks largely to the hard work of a dedicated little band of volunteers...!
