- The shipping canal, known as the Trekvliet, ran between the Rijswijkplein and the Vliet. On the left, looming above the trees, can be seen the tower of the house called de Binckhort. On the right is the Laak windmill (Laakmolen) ( (52°4′4.16″N 4°19′56.98″E / 52.0678222°N 4.3324944°E). The name "Laakmolen" refers to the milk that could be bought there. It was a popular destination for a Sunday stroll from the Hague (now part of its environs) and Vincent van Gogh, whom Weissenbruch met in 1873 and visited again in 1882, sketched it in watercolour. In an otherwise identical later version of the painting, Weissenbruch replaced the tree on the left by a second mill.
