Frontier Airlines Flight 1326

Frontier Airlines Flight 1326 was a Frontier Airlines regularly scheduled commercial domestic passenger flight from San Diego International Airport in San Diego, California to Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas, Nevada. In the late afternoon of October 5, 2024, the aircraft experienced a hard landing, resulting in flames shooting out of the landing gear area of the aircraft.

Aircraft

The aircraft was a Airbus A321-211, MSN 6793, registered as N701FR, was delivered on October 9, 2015, and had served for nine years before the incident. It was painted in Frontier's Otto the Owl livery. It was built by Airbus in Hamburg, Germany in early 2015. It was powered by two CFM International CFM56 turbofan engines.

Incident

On October 5, 2024, around 3:30 PM local time, the pilots noticed smoke and declared an emergency. They then began a hard left bank 5.3 miles due east of Henderson. They then lowered their landing gear and prepared to land on runway 26L 7 minutes later. According to video, the landing appeared to be very rough, resulting in a fire in the lower hull of the aircraft. Within seconds, airport firefighters were dousing the plane in foam and water. The passengers were safely evacuated via airstairs to the gate, and neither the crew or the passengers had any injuries. The aircraft remained on the tarmac under investigation throughout the night, and the runway was closed until the next morning. As of October 7, 2024, It is unknown whether the aircraft was going to be put back into service. It was determined that the fire was located in the right engine of the aircraft and spread to the landing gear upon landing.
