Holštejn

Holštejn is a municipality and village in Blansko District in the South Moravian Region of the Czech Republic, in the historical region of Moravia. It has about 200 inhabitants.

Holštejn lies approximately 5 kilometres (3 mi) north of Blansko, 24 kilometres (15 mi) north of Brno, and 178 kilometres (111 mi) south-east of Prague.

History

The first written mention of Holštejn is from 1349, when Vok I of Holštejn was mentioned. It was a castle and a Market town. Existence of the castle was last mentioned in 1511. In 1550, Holštejn was described as abandoned and only one mill survived. In 1791, the village of Holštejn was established again.
