Keezhapungudi Brahma Pureeswarar Temple

Brahma Pureeswarar Temple is a Shiva temple situated at Keezhapungudi neighbourhood in Sivaganga district of Tamil Nadu state in India. The main deity in this temple is Brahmapureeswarar and the goddess is Brahma Vidyambiga. Theertham is Brahma theertham and sthala viruksham is Kadamba tree in this temple.

Mythical importance

Shiva has five heads in His appearance. Similarly it is believed that Brahma also had five heads. Brahma demanded that he was superior to Shiva as Brahma also executes the creation of birth. As Shiva had wanted to teach him a lesson, He took off one of Brahma's head. And thereafter Brahma appears as four-headed. Realised his mistake, Brahma visited some of the important Shiva temples in the world to get rid of from his wrong notion. As he visited and worshipped Shiva here in this temple and Shiva gave darshan to Brahma here, the main deity in this temple is called as Brahmapureeswarar.

Festivals

Maha Shivaratri, Navratri, Chithirai festival, Vaikasi Visakam, Masi Magam, Panguni Uthiram, Maargallhi Thiruvathira, Abhishek with conches, Thaipusam, Koodaaravalli fasting and Shashti Vrata are the important festivals celebrated in this temple.
