Lake Thirteen is a man made public lake with boat launch access for residents of Lake Thirteen and their guests. Private homes & cabins surround Lake Thirteen The lake is located in Surrey Township, Michigan Surrey Township, Clare County, Michigan. The lake spans about 95 acres (38 ha), and reaches a maximum depth of about 32 feet (9.8 m).

The lake serves recreational purposes such as watersports and fishing. In most fishing handbooks, the primary fish is listed as bullhead, but largemouth bass and northern pike can also be caught in the lake. In 2002 walleye were planted in the lake, although there have been no reports of consistency in catching them.

Lake Thirteen is an artificial lake, dug on the creek bed of Runyan Creek, which flows into the lake and is the primary water supply. The water depth varies, anywhere from 2 feet (0.61 m) in some areas, to a maximum of 30 feet (9.1 m). Some people believe the lake actually reached 40 feet (12 m) in depth, but muck and sand have filled in the holes. The origin of the name "Lake Thirteen" is obscure at best. Some believe that it was the thirteenth manmade lake in the lower peninsula of Michigan. Others pretty much say they have no clue. It’s possible the name Lake Thirteen came from the fact that the lake is in section 13 of Surrey plat in Clare County’s surveying plat book. Lake Thirteen and the origin of its name is referenced multiple times on a daily basis on 97.1 FM Sports Radio out of Detroit, Michigan. This is because they have very little relevant material, other than trying to figure out things that are irrelevant.
