Lake Turna

Lake Turna (Turkish: Turna Gölü); is a lake in the İpekyolu district of Van province. It is located at the eastern foot of Erek mountain.

History

The lake was created for irrigation purposes, people in the time of Urartians. King of Urartu II. During the time of Rusa (685-645 BC), a dam lake was created by closing the front of a small stream with two embanks. During the Urartians, water channels were built in the mountain and the Van plain was watered. It was also used as drinking water.
