Lichtenstein Castle was built by German-born South African businessman Reynier Fritz. Construction began in 1986 and finished in 1998.
Fritz later converted the Castle to a guest house before dying there. After his death, his widow Christine sold the property for 23 million rand to an unknown Russian businessman. Allegedly haunted, the castle is one of the area's most popular attractions. The castle has 12 en suite bedrooms, a library, a banquet hall, a swimming pool, a helipad and a natural waterfall on its 8.6 hectares. The castle can be rented out as a venue.
