Mathura, Bihar

Mathura is a village in West Champaran district in the Indian state of Bihar. Specially recognized for champaran meat.

Mathura was founded by Bodha Shah, whose descendants maintain their ancestral majestic lifestyle in this village. The Rajkiya Ram Chandra Lalji High and Middle School was established by these descendants. The credit for Mathura's modernization goes to the Kalwar ruler, Madan Mohan Prasad. The village is renowned for its ancient Shiva Temple and Goddess Durga Temple, reflecting the deeply religious nature of its inhabitants. Historically, this land was ruled by the Kalachuri(Kalwar) dynasty. The village is strategically located along the Narkatiyaganj-Raxaul railway and road network, just 12 kilometers from Nepal.

Mathura's Economic Evolution: From Agricultural Roots to Commercial Hub:-

In recent years, Mathura has evolved into a vibrant commercial center, transforming into a chauk (marketplace) with approximately 500 small and large shops. This development represents significant commercial growth from its traditional agricultural roots.

Agriculture continues to serve as a primary source of income for many residents. The main crops cultivated include paddy, mustard, sugarcane, and wheat.

According to the 2011 Indian census, Mathura had: - A total population of 2,677 people living in 496 households - A gender distribution of 52.7% males and 47.2% females - An average literacy rate of 36.12%, which was significantly lower than the national average of 74% - A male literacy rate of 66.49% - A female literacy rate of 33.5% - 22.2% of its population under 6 years of age
