Mesquita (Portuguese for 'mosque'; pronounced [mesˈkitɐ]) is a municipality located in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro. Its population was 176,569 (2020) and its area is 42 km (16 sq mi).
The municipality contains part of the 4,398 hectares (10,870 acres) Mendanha State Park, created in 2013. The name is a reference to the second Baron of Mesquita, Jerônimo Roberto de Mesquita, the owner of the old farms (fazendas) in the present central region of the municipality.
