Norden, Greater Manchester

Norden is a village in the Metropolitan Borough of Rochdale, in Greater Manchester, England. It was historically part of Lancashire until 1974. It is situated on the western outskirts of the town of Rochdale.

There is a Rochdale Ward with the same name. Based on the 2021 Census, this ward had a population of 9,733.

Geography

The main road through the village is the A680 Edenfield Road, which runs from Rochdale town centre to the village of Edenfield within the Rossendale borough of Lancashire.

Taylor Park (53°37′15″N 2°12′04″W / 53.6207°N 2.2011°W / 53.6207; -2.2011) is an area of land in Norden. It is situated on an old mine shaft, which makes the location unsuitable for building on. The park is known to residents around it as Taylor Park, probably because it is located right next to Taylor Avenue.

Government

Norden ward is included in the Heywood and Middleton constituency, represented in Parliament by Chris Clarkson (of the Conservative Party). It will be renamed Heywood and Middleton North and first contested at the 2024 general election.

Sport

Norden is the home of Norden Cricket Club, who joined the Lancashire League in 2018.
