Sangertown Square
History
The mall opened in July 1980 with Hess's, JCPenney, and Sears as its anchor stores. Other stores in the mall at its opening included Radio Shack, General Nutrition Center, Endicott Johnson, Liberty Travel, and Waldenbooks.
Hess's became Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based Kaufmann's in 1994. Bradlees shuttered around 2001 and was razed and replaced with a Target store by 2002. Kaufmann's became a Macy's in September 2006.
In 2009, Circuit City shuttered, with the space replaced by a HomeGoods.
In September 2012, DSW opened as a junior anchor within the shopping concourse.
In 2014, a two-year refresh modernizing Sangertown Square was announced which included new seating, decorative lighting, new tile, exterior entrances, and an improved landscape.
In 2015, it was announced Boscov's would replace Sears, as part of an ongoing decision to phase out its traditional brick-and-mortar format.
The beginning of the 2020s saw several traditional department store retailers update their brick-and-mortar formats after being encroached upon to a degree by several digital retailers in recent years.
On January 6, 2021, Macy's, which also retains several much larger outposts over by Albany and Syracuse, announced it was closing. This left the mall with only two anchor stores: Target and Boscov's.
By October 2022, Sangertown Square has announced several new additions, including , , , and axe throwing at PiNZ social.
