Sheikh Russell Swimming Pool

Sheikh Russell Swimming Pool is a swimming pool for sports events and training at the district level in Bangladesh. It is located inside the Sheikh Russell Stadium Complex in Islampur (Hanumantala), Rangpur city. Like all government sports venues for swimming events in Bangladesh, it is under the National Sports Council and managed by the local Rangpur District Sports Association. After becoming operational, swimming training for boys and girls began.

Construction History

The Ministry of Youth and Sports (Bangladesh) started a project in 2019 for extensive renovation and development of the Rangpur Stadium Complex, including the construction of a communication center, indoor stadium, players’ dormitories, seminar rooms, conference halls, and press boxes. As part of the further development of the same project, it was decided to build a swimming pool inside the stadium complex. The construction of the swimming pool was completed by Technip Corporation in January 2022, alongside other facilities of the project. The total cost of construction was 10.69 crore Taka. The swimming pool was officially inaugurated on 2 August 2023.

Structure

The Sheikh Russell Swimming Pool is an open-air swimming pool with 5 lanes and a length of 25 meters. The pool has a two-story spectator gallery on both sides, a pavilion, and an internal boundary wall. There is an underground water reservoir with a 6-inch deep borewell and a water purification system for the pool's water supply.
