Strange Creek is an unincorporated community along Route 4 in Braxton County, West Virginia, United States, near the border with Clay County. It lies along the bank of the Elk River. The community takes its name from nearby Strange Creek.

The legend surrounding Strange Creek is quite old to confirm but still holds its place in folk legends. It is believed that William Strange, Henry Jackson and two other men came into Elk valley to survey the area. At that time, this area was inhabited and had vast areas of forest. On this trip, William Strange was responsible for cooking and arranging food. In an attempt to do so, Strange went out on his horse into the forest to gather something to eat. he also had his gun with him.

However, when he never returned the next day, his fellows went out iin his search. they found both the horse and the gun and followed traces that could lead to William Strange. But, nothing was found of him. Later, bone remenants were found there which were supposed to be of William Strange.
