Template:EstcatCountryDecade
{{EstcatCountryDecade|''''' country [ | sort key ] ''}}
- Examples
{{EstcatCountryDecade|the United States|United States}}
{{EstcatCountryDecade|Belgium}}
Change of country name
From 2015 to January 2022, this template took an optional parameter for a new name of the country. That parameter is now obsolete, as the template makes use of category redirects instead.
If the default parent category "Establishments in 'X' by decade" is a category redirect page, the template will resolve the category redirect, i.e. it will use the target page with the new name instead. Similarly, it will resolve a redirect on the century parent.
- Examples
The name Netherlands Antilles is used on all categories for 1954 onwards, and for any periods ending in or after that year, e.g. 1950s and 20th century.
For categories up to 1953, use the old name, i.e.
- Example
{{EstcatCountryDecade|Curaçao and Dependencies}}
The parent categories will be Category:20th-century establishments in Curaçao and Dependencies, but Category:Establishments in the Netherlands Antilles by decade, because Category:Establishments in Curaçao and Dependencies by decade is redirected.
Where a different result is desired, it may be best to create a specific template like those in Category:20th-century establishments templates by country.
Disambiguation
If the country name used in the category title is ambiguous, use the optional named dab parameter to link to the mainspace article about the country.
- Example
{{EstcatCountryDecade|Malaya|dab=Malayan Union}}
Parent categories
One of the parent categories added by the template is "YYYYs establishments by country". However, the template includes conditional logic so that decades before 6th century CE will instead be held directly in "YYYs establishments", as the "by country" categories for early periods were merged per consensus at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2017 August 4.
Categories for decades 500s to 950s are in neither of these parents, but are manually placed in categories by continent instead, following consensus at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2017 October 30.
