Usage
Required parameter
- num: The monument number from the database. Alias: mnumber
To obtain the value for this parameter:
- Search for and open the required record on the Heritage Gateway site, for example "East Farleigh Bridge", at the Heritage Gateway search page (Note:A filter is available to only display research records in the Resources tab of the More Detailed Search)
- The monument number is located in the "Hob Uid:" field which in this example is 415833. Should this value be unavailable the "uid=" part of the URL can also be used. The URL for East Farleigh Bridge is:
https://www.heritagegateway.org.uk/Gateway/Results_Single.aspx?uid=cbe67e14-c76b-4c25-8e57-5c48163454ba&resourceID=19191
Optional parameters
- desc: The name of the database entry. If this parameter is not used default text "Monument No." will be displayed instead. Alias: mname
- date: The date provided by Historic England. Can be a full or partial date.
- year: The year provided by Historic England. Use of
|date=
is recommended; see Template:Cite web/doc#Date for proper usage. - orig-year: The date information was first provided by Historic England. Only appears if
|date=
or|year=
is also used. - access-date: The date information was retrieved from the database. Alias: accessdate
- separator: (deprecated)
Defaults to a period (Use mode.
); if the parameter is present, but blank, no separator punctuation will be used; do not use an asterisk (*
), colon (:
) or hash (#
) as they will be interpreted as wikimarkup. Used in conjunction with the postscript parameter it can provide consistency with Citation style 2, as produced by{{Citation}}
. - mode: Defaults to
|mode=cs1
; set to|mode=cs2
to provide consistency with Citation style 2, as produced by{{Citation}}
. - postscript: Controls the closing punctuation for the citation. Defaults to a period (
.
); for no terminating punctuation set to|postscript=none
, however using|mode=cs2
does this automatically. - fewer-links: Use
|fewer-links=yes
to remove repeated links where the template is used more than once in an article. - ref: Defaults to author (Historic England) and the National Monument Record Number, but can be reset to any value.
Examples
{{Historic England research records |num=415833}}
gives:
Historic England. "Monument No. 415833". Research records (formerly PastScape).
{{Historic England research records |num=415833 |desc=East Farleigh Bridge}}
gives:
Historic England. "East Farleigh Bridge (415833)". Research records (formerly PastScape).
{{Historic England research records |num=415833 |desc=East Farleigh Bridge |access-date=26 December 2024}}
gives:
Historic England. "East Farleigh Bridge (415833)". Research records (formerly PastScape). Retrieved 26 December 2024.
{{Historic England research records |num=415833 |desc=East Farleigh Bridge |access-date=26 December 2024 |mode=cs2}}
gives:
Historic England, "East Farleigh Bridge (415833)", Research records (formerly PastScape), retrieved 26 December 2024
{{Historic England research records |num=1012426 |desc=Wades Causeway |access-date=26 December 2024 |fewer-links=yes}}
gives:
Historic England. "Wades Causeway (1012426)". Research records (formerly PastScape). Retrieved 26 December 2024.
If a short citation is required and one of the {{harv}} templates or {{sfn}} is used then {{harv|Historic England|National Monument Record Number}}
will link the short reference to the long one. For example, {{harv|Historic England|1012426}}
produces (Historic England & 1012426) that links to the "Wades Causway" example above. This is different from the standard use of the {{harv}} that links using the parameters "author" and "date" or "year".
