Timur's Gates

Timur's Gates (Uzbek: Timur Darvaza) also knows Tamerlane's Gate and the pass of Jilanuti, are the mountainous passes near Jizzakh, Jizzakh Region, Uzbekistan.

General

Timur's Gates are located on the ancient route from Samarkand to the Gorodnaya Steps, where Tashkent is now located. They are at the breaks in the middle of the Zarafshan Range of Uzbekistan.

Numerous soldiers passed Timur's Gates to defend or conquer. Timur (1336 - 1405) also went on his eastern expedition to Ming China, but he died during this expedition.

Today, the main highway M39 and the Tashkent-Samarkand railway pass through Timur's Gates.
